About Yours Truly

Hi friend! Welcome to my blog, Soli Deo Gloria!!!

If you're anything like me, then I'm assuming this is one of the first places you clicked when arriving. ('Cause let's admit, the About Me page is usually where most people automatically go when they find a new blog!) 😉 Since that's the case, I'm also assuming that you want to get to know the crazy writer who runs this place! *Gasps from unseen audience* I know, it's insane. SO LET'S DIVE IN!!! (Do be warned. You have no idea what you just got yourself into.) *evil cackles*

First of all, my name is Victoria (which I'm sure you already knew). Like I said in my portfolio, I'm an INFP, detail-oriented, perfectionist, which means, unless you're a perfectionist as well, you DO NOT want to work on any arts and crafts project with me or else we will be sitting there until midnight making sure every piece is in its proper place. (Hah. Kidding. Even I'd be dead by midnight if that happened. But still). Because of that, I'll also do my very best of not turning this simple About Me page into a full-fledged autobiography, but we'll see....😏

However, before we get to the fun bio, here's the boring, short one I use for professional reasons! Not that anything I do is professional, but ya get the point. XD

Victoria Crooks is a daydreaming, chocolate loving, teenager saved by the grace and blood of Jesus Christ. When she’s not reading, writing, or blogging, she enjoys listening to music, hanging out with her family, and doing other odd things like planning her dream vacation to New Zealand or confusing herself with the idea of time travel. Most of all, however, she hopes to glorify God with whatever she does and live her life for Him. You can find her at gloryforgodalone.blogspot.com and on Goodreads.

OH, and also, here are some other things you might find interesting too, that, more or less, concern any habits of mine you might pick-up when reading my blog:

  • I like parentheses (if you haven't already noticed).
  • I'll probably end up using way too many emojis to be legal.
  • I have an affinity for GIFs.
  • Sometimes I also use way too many exclamation points!!!!!
  • If you excel at grammar, you may find misplaced commas and several run-on sentences (that's where I excel). 😉
  • Aaaaand I like asterisks, so you'll probably see plenty of those too. *eagerly rubs hands together*
Now some more about me and my life! (i.e. my way more fun and casual bio.) 😉
  • Family is everything to me! I have two, very close, AMAZING sisters. ❤️
  • I have one, very annoying, but also adorable, cat who thinks she rules the world (don't all cats think that?).
  • Horses are, hands down, my favorite animals ever. 😍
  • I'm really into psychology and plan on pursuing a career as a therapist.
  • Reading is LIFE, y'all!
  • A few of my favorite books are the Keeper of the Lost Cities series, The Ascendance series, The Lunar Chronicles, Fawkes, Out of Time series, Howl's Moving Castle, Ignite, and the Bible.
  • Some of my favorite authors are Nadine Brandes, Shannon Messenger,  Jennifer A. Nielsen, and Jenna Terese to name a few!
  • I enjoy most genres, but my favorite genres are Fantasy and Sci-fi.
  • Some of my favorite movies are Marvel's Avenger movies (give or take a few), Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, the 2019 Aladdin, Back to the Future, The Greatest Showman, and many…many more. XD
  • My favorite TV series are The Mandalorian, Moon Knight, Psych, and The Chosen.
  • I love music, both listening to it and playing it!
  • Also, I play the piano and guitar!
  • And lastly, I'm a writer! I've been published in a 2018 collection of short stories called Into the Sunset by Susan K. Marlow and just recently, I was published again in an anthology called Imagine by Teen Writer's Nook!
But above all, I'm a Christian saved by the grace and blood of Jesus Christ! Getting saved and baptized was the best thing that ever happened to me and I hope to live my life to it's fullest extent for God! That's why this blog is called Soli Deo Gloria. If you know your history (or Latin) 😉then you also might know that Soli Deo Gloria means "To the Glory of God Alone". That's the main purpose behind this blog. It may seem that I'm the author of this itty bitty corner of the internet, but God's the true Author of everything. So, whatever I share, whether it's a faith post, book review, life post, or something else, all the credit goes to God and the glory is for Him alone!

So, that's what this blog and I are all about! I hope you join in on whatever happens over here and accompany me on this little old blogging journey of mine! Also, do remember, I LOVE getting comments and more so getting to know YOU! So don't be shy to drop a thought on any of my posts (new or old) or contact me in the contact form under my portfolio! Soooo, that's about it!! Thanks again for stopping by and I guess I'll see you later!

Tally-ho!

Fawkes is one of my favorite books too! Have you read Romanov yet? And yes, the 2019 Aladdin movie is the BEST! The music, choreography, settings, and really everything is so good!

XD Sometimes, if I'm working on a project, I know it's good enough, but then I'll see this itty bitty lil' part that Isn't. Just. Right. and (even though I know others won't notice it) I feel like I HAVE to get it fixed or else it'll drive me crazy! XD Soooo yeah, you probably didn't need to hear that woeful tale of mine, but, like I said, I completely understand whatcha mean!

YESSS!!! Fawkes fangirls for the win!!! XD Oooh, yes I have! It was SOOO good! I think I preferred Fawkes a tiny bit more, but Romanov was the one that made me fall in love with Nadine Brandes' books! Have you read her Out of Time series? :D AHHH!!! Ikr!?!? Aladdin is da bomb!!!

XD So i didn't really know what you were speaking there!
    Have a wonderful day!!!

I don't think I've asked you this before (if I have just ignore it) XP but whose your favorite Kotlc character? (Mine's Keefe 'cause he's literally the biggest BB (broken boy) ;P I have ever met!)
OKAY. I seriously NEED to read the False Prince! Soooo many people love it and just AHHH!!!! I can feel the fandom calling me! XD Ooooh YES again to LotR and the Hunger Games!!! I just got into both of those fandoms recently (er...the Hunger Games last year at least) XD and they are so good!

MANDO AND BABY YODA!!!!! They just give me ALLLL the feels! <333
Ooooh, that's so cool! What's your favorite song (or artist)? I personally can't be specific on that one 'cause there's just SO MANY!!! XD
WAIT YOU'RE LEARNING LATIN!?!?! I LEARNED LATIN TOO!!!! A few years ago, that is! My mom thought it might be a good first language to learn 'cause it's kinda like a "foundation" for other languages. (Although, that actually *cough* isn't what gave me the idea to name my blog this. I was actually learning about the Reformation for history which was where the 5 Solas originated.) XD

Oh, okay!!! Thanks for letting me know! (I was actually kinda worried when we were beta reading for HtHC if I was supposed to know your real name or not...XD) But I will definitely use your username on your blog! (Which I'd LOVE to check out if that's okay! Since it's private though, will I need to have some kind of special access if you're fine with me visiting?)

Ekk! I can't pick!! XD I like anything that you would find on a Christian radio station! XD But I also like songs from movies and thing like that!

Since my blog is private you would need a wordpress account (not a blog just an account) and then you click request access. I'll get an email and approve it! XD

There are just so many to choose from!! XD

    2. It's an awesome show, do you have a favorite character from? I honestly like Shawn, Gus, Juliet, and Lassiter.

I don't mind at all, the one I am writing (not plotting, though I do have another one I am plotting) is a Fantasy murder mystery called The Mystery of the Body Thief , The main character Horatio wakes up from being in a coma, and does memory of anything that happened to him (which one of the mysteries), and another mystery is going on where royalty from different kingdoms are getting murdered for reasons, people are trying to figure out.

Basically it is a mystery set in a Fantasy world, and very few of the characters are human. Most of them are elves, fairies or something else entirely. :D

Oooh, those are all good choices. If you could have any (magical) power, what power would you have? I would shape-shift.
      -Quinley

      Delete
    3. It is!!!! OH. EVERY character you mentioned just now is BY FAR on my favorite list too!!!!! XD I actually wasn't big on Lassie at first, but he's gotten much better as the show's progressed! ;) And of course, Shawn and Gus are just a riot to watch!!! I honestly don't know how Gus is able to put up with Shawn so well. XD

WHOAAAAA, THAT STORY IS SO COOOOL!!!!!!!! I would TOTALLY read it!!! Mysteries in general are fun to read, but a FANTASY MYSTERY!?!?! THAT'S JUST GENIUS!!! :D

Good question!! I would probably want to either have the ability to talk to and summon animals OR teleport! (Would that count as magical???) XD Ooooh, shape-shifting would be an AWESOME power too!!

      Delete
    4. Yeah Lassiter has, and honestly he and Juliet became a few of my favorite characters to watch in the show. :D Interestingly Lassiter was an inspiration for a character in my Fantasy murder mystery, who is an elvish detective in the police department in my Fantasy world. :)

Oh thank you, I hope to get it self-published or published one day, so once it is out you can definitely read it. :D I'm currently on my second draft in terms of writing this novel.

Oooh those are cool powers, if you could be any Fantasy creature what would you be? i would be an elf or a shapeshifter. :)
      -Quinley

      Delete
    5. I definitely agree!!! I love seeing their friendship grow in each episode! *Gasps* NO WAY!!! Girl, THAT'S SO AWESOME!!!! Now I want to read your book even moooore! It sure must be fun writing a Lassiter-style elf! XP

Wait, REALLY!?!? EEEEEEK!!!! I absolutely can't wait to read it once it comes out! ;) Oh wow, that's some good progress there! I on the other hand...eheh. Let's just say my book is faaaar from having a second draft right now. *coughs* XD

Hmmm...I'd want to be an elf! (Or a fairy...they're both fun creatures!) :D Okay, so now I have a question for you! (And this might sound weird, but bear with me.) XD If you could go on a Fantasy quest (maybe to Mordor???) ;) with a) Shawn and a shapeshifter OR b) Gus and an elf, who would you pick and why? As much as I love Gus, I'd probably go with Shawn and the shapeshifter. Poor Gus just doesn't always handle crazy and slightly dangerous situations well. XDD

      Delete
    6. It really is fun. :D I really love writing his character, though the other characters for some reason don't tend to take him that seriously...XD This may be because he tried to woe Annabelle (one of the main characters), and failed...miserably.

Thank you, editing is really hard though, I am rewriting the writing I wrote in 2018, which is must different from what I am writing now, so rewriting is difficult but worth it. I just hope the third draft will be easier. And not intending to self advertise, but I have made some posts on my blog about my novel, if you would like me send one of them to you, I can, given how excited you are about it and I love seeing people being excited about my writing. :D And don't worry, I never thought I would get to the second draft when I first started writing my novels, I thought it was impossible or would take years …It did take a couple years, but not ten or fifty years, like I was worried it would.

Probably Shawn the Shapeshifter too, I also want to see what things Shawn will shape shift into, and how it will influence his lies...because he's obviously not telling the truth. Though it would be cool to see what Gus is like as an elf, would he be a Rivendell or a Silvan elf? Also I have a weird question for you, who would you rather see appear on Psych (somehow) as a character Legolas or Bilbo? And how do you think they would interact in a place other than Middle Earth?

      -Quinley

    7. Ahahahaha!!! XDD Man, I would've LOVED to be a fly on the wall during that incident! XP #TheWoeingMishapOfTheCentury ;)

I bet!! That must take some serious dedication for sure! Honestly, writing the first draft is probably the most fun part 'cause you can just spill out all the words (even the incoherent and nonsensical ones) XD you want and THEN clean it all up with the edits and revisions. OooOooh, YES YES YES!!!!! I would LOVE to see those posts!!!!!!!! If it'd be easiest, you can just put the links here and I can copy and paste them into my browser. :D Girl, that is LITERALLY the way I feel right now. To be honest, the thought of even finishing a first draft of my novel seems so far off, but it's SO good to hear it didn't take that long for you!!! That's actually a huge encouragement (and gives me a lot more hope with my WIP), so THANK YOU!!!!! :D

IKR!?!?! That would be pretty interesting to see how shape shifting would influence his lies. Lol, it would!!! Ooooh, I dunno. *thinks hard* I guess Rivendell? What do you think? AHHH!!! I love that question!!!! Okay, ummmm...I think I'd rather see Legolas appear on Psych. Just imagining him walking around Santa Barbra in his elven clothes and bow and arrows makes me laugh. XD I bet he would have a hard time comprehending what technology is and I could easily see him walking in the street and almost getting run over by a car without knowing what it is. XDD What about you?

      Delete
    8. For D.I. Time (the character who tried to woe Annabelle), it was a very confusing incident for sure. XD And yeah, it would be fun to be a fly on the wall during that time. XD
I think though the readers are pretty much flies on the wall during the whole thing...I mean no one knows they are there...Haha..

I'm glad what I said was encouraging to you, and I wish you luck in finishing your novel. I would definitely buy it if it were a published book, because it sounds so cool.

And yeah first drafts are pretty much like that, I remember in the first draft of The Mystery of the Body Thief near the end I just ended up putting out random words because I wanted it to end...XD And didn't really take much time thinking about the words...
Thankfully I can clean them up in editing. :)

Here are the posts, by the way. :D :

https://adventure1359.blogspot.com/2021/07/announcing-my-july-2021-project-mystery.html (this is the most recent one I made about my WIP)

https://adventure1359.blogspot.com/2018/09/wattys-and-camp-nanowrimo-july-2018.html (this is one I made during the 1st draft).

I wonder what Shawn would be able to shapeshift into animals and other humans, or only humans? If it was humans, I wonder if he would turn himself into different characters on the show in order to tease them.

Probably Rivendell as well, I don't think Gus would like mirkwood...
Oh I would want to see Legolas in Santa Barbra as well. XD I also wonder how he would be involved and how Shawn and Gus would react to him.
Another random question, who would you rather have coffee with Juliet or Lassiter?
      -Quinley

    9. Hahahaha!!! You're so right!! I never thought about readers being flies on the wall for any book, really. XD

Awwwww, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! *hugs* That means a lot! :D

*cackles* Girl, I'll probably be doing the same thing if I ever finish mine! Endings are SO HARD to write sometimes. *sighs*

AWESOOOOME!!!!! Thank you so much!!! I can't wait to check them out!!!!!! *jumps up and down* :D

Ooh MWAHAHAHA...if Shawn did that, that would be HILARIOUS!!!!! XDD He would most definitely turn into the other characters to confuse them!!

Same...Mirkwood's cool, but it might creep him out a bit. XD
Me too!!!! Shawn and Gus would probably be SO caught off guard with him there!
Oh, definitely Juliet! I mean, Lassiter's cool and all, but he and I probably wouldn't have much in common to talk about. XD

    10. I mean we are secretly watching characters when reading, we may as well be flies. XD

      YOU'RE WELCOME *hugs back* :D

You're welcome, and thank you for the amazing comments. :) I responded to them. :D

Agreed, imagine how funny it would be if he turned himself into a snow globe in order to scare Lassiter. (Who really dislikes snow globes). XD
Yeah they would, but maybe they would think he was a cosplayer or something...either that or crazy. XD

I would honestly choose both, but probably Juliet also. Have you seen the new Pysch movies?

    11. IKR!?!?! Buzzzz...XD

Of course!!! Awesome!!! I'll have to head over there once I finish this comment!

YESSS GIRL!!!!! That would be HILARIOUS!!!!!! XDD
*cackles* Well, I'm pretty sure they already think he's crazy so that wouldn't change much. XD

Nice! Ooooh, no I haven't, but I really want to! Are they any good?

(Also, heheh, sorry it took me forever to respond to your comment. *hides* I was out of town for the week and unable to get to it.)

    12. XD

Oh true, but they've dealt with crazy people before, so I am sure it isn't that odd. XD

They are very good, I definitely recommend them. :D What I love about them is they continue the story where it was left off and do it really well.

Random question, what songs have you been listening to lately? :) I've been listening to "The Wave Soaked Maiden" by Ginny Di, a cover of "Wuthering Heights" by Karliene, and a lot of different songs by Ashley Serena.

(Don't worry about it, take as much time as you need to respond).

    13. Lol, IKR!?!?! Just another day on the job. XP

That's awesome!! We'll definitely have to watch them once we finish all of the seasons! :D

Ooooh, lemme see...*scurries off to check playlist* I've been listening to Ruelle, like, nonstop. XD Some of my favorites by her is "Carry You" (feat. Fleurie), "Storm", "Giants" (which is technically by this band called Sliverberg and features her), "Walk Through the Fire" (again she's a featured in it but it's officially by this guy named Zayde Wolf *shrugs*), "Slip Away" and "Hang on a Little Longer" (UNSECRET, feat. Ruelle), "Nothing Is As It Seems" (Hidden Citizens, feat. Ruelle), "The World We Made" (Ruelle), "Story of My Life" by One Direction, "Breathe" by Fleurie and Legends of Runeterra, "Someone Like You" and "Set Fire to the Rain" by Adele, this instrumental composer group called Audiomachine (they've done a lot of music for movie trailers and stuff), "Until Grace" by Tauren Wells, "War Cry" by Queen Naija, "Patient" by Apollo LTD, and a lot more. XD Yeah, that was probably more answers than you wanted, but as you know, I LOVE music so I get excited when the topic comes up. XD Oooooh, I'll absolutely have to check those out!! Thanks for the recommendations! :D

      (Awww, thanks!) :)

    14. Yup. XD

Oh awesome, I hope you enjoy them. They're actually planning to release a third movie soon (and it focuses on Gus).

Oh cool, I've never heard of any those songs, bands or singers before but they all sound awesome. What genres are they musically? Also I have more songs to add to the list, I've been listening to a lot of music by BlackBriar, " Until Eternity" and "Arms of the Ocean," being the ones I listen to the most, "The Willow Maid" by Erutan, "Two" by Random Encounters, "Holding Out for a Hero" that is done in a music style called Bardcore,
"Skye Boat" covered by Malinda, "Already Broken" by Karliene, "Remains of the Day" cover by Maisy Kay and so many more.

Do you have any songs that remind you of your characters or story? I usually make whole playlists of songs just for that. XD While "Until Eternity" isn't a song that reminds me of one of my characters, I feel it really fits another Fantasy novel series I am working on. (I feel it could be a theme song for it).

And "No Master" by Karliene, describes one of my main characters (Annabelle).

      (You're welcome).

    15. Thanks!! I have no doubt I will! ;) Whoooaaa, that's so cool!!!! I'll be looking forward to its release then!!

They are! Ruelle, Fleurie, and One Direction are kind of indie/pop; Adele is pop; Audiomachine is just instrumental; Tauren Wells and Apollo LTD are Christian contemporary; and I'm not really sure what Queen Naija's genre is. R&B I think??? "War Cry" is the only song of hers I've heard though, so I couldn't personally recommend any others at the moment. :) *GASPS* I LOVE Holding Out for a Hero!!! I actually learned to play that one on the guitar a while back!! XD I haven't heard of the others but I'll absolutely have to listen to them!!!

*Grins* Girl, you have no idea! XD I LOVE making playlists for my characters! If I'm able to get that certain post up I mentioned in the end Valor's interview, then you'll get to see some of the songs I have for one of the characters in a book I'm going to start working on!! :D Lol, SAME! Music is such a huge inspiration for my stories. I'll be listening to a song for example, and suddenly get a whole new book idea just from one lyric. XD I'm so excited to check out these songs you've mentioned now!!!

    16. You're welcome! I'm so excited for it's release.

Oh cool. :D Most of the music I listen to, is usually independent music, that is in a folk, sort of Fantasy genre (or Goth in BlackBriar's case), but they are really cool and ethereal sounding. (I showed the style of music I listen to, one person said it sounded like the elves's music from LOTR). What's your favorite music genre to listen to?

Ooooh cool, I look forward to reading that post then. And tell me, what you think of the music once you listen to it. :D I'll listen to some of the music you said you listened to too.

    17. Cool!!!! Oh man, it really just varies with whatever mood I'm in. XD But my favorite would probably be Pop (whether it's Christian Pop, Indie Pop, etc.)! But again, it's so hard to choose!!

Aaaahh, your music choices were so cool!!! I especially enjoyed "Until Eternity" and "Arms of the Ocean"! I don't think I've ever heard anything like those songs before! I also liked how "The Willow Maid" kinda told a story and "Already Broken" gave me some serious chills. XD (Reminded me of a soldier in battle or something...) If you've listened to mine I'd love to hear what you think too! (No hard feelings if you don't like them. XP We each have our own tastes!) ;)

    18. Oh cool, I like Folk, Ambient, and Ethereal music.

Glad you like the music, I randomly had music by the band Blackmore's Night appear on Pandora one day, and then they found a whole bunch of music that reminds me of my stories. :D Also I've been listening to the music from your playlist for your story, and I really like the song "Restore" it's so beautiful and calming.

Random question, but since you're a Fantasy writer (I am too. ;) ) What do you like most about creating worlds? I personally really like creating the religions for my worlds, as well as the magic systems.

    19. Awesome!

Oh wow, that's so cool! I love it when random things like that happen. XD *Gasps* Really!?!? Awwww, I'm so glad you like that one! It's definitely one of my favs too!! :D

Oooh, that's a good one! Probably, like you said, the magic systems and the setting! One of the main things I love about writing Fantasy is because there are no rules to break—you can just write whatever you want! (Which is especially helpful when it comes to magic!) ;)

      Delete
    20. it's such a beautiful song.💙

Yeah the setting is so fun to write. What's your favorite type of magic to write in your stories? I seem to write a lot of shapeshifting and turn my characters into different animals. XD

      Delete
    21. Ooooh, probably stuff with spells and creating enchantments (or something like that)! XD Haha! What's been your favorite animal that you've turned a character into?

      Delete
    22. (Hopefully I didn't respond already, I can't remember whether I did or not), but I think I really enjoyed turning (two different) characters into a fox and a crow, they are of course different stories where these happen, but it is so fun...to torture characters. XD

      Delete
    23. (Haha, no worries, you didn't!) ;) Ooooh, that sounds like it was a BLAST!!! MWAHAHA, girl, don't I know it! I kinda feel bad for the characters when we torture them, but at the same time it's just so daggone fun! XD #ThisIsTheAuthorWay ;P

    24. It really is. XD

What projects are you working on right now? I'm currently working on my novel and the sequel to my novel along with a poetry collection. Also, I am working on a video project where my characters answer my (blog) readers's questions. :)

Also how are your characters doing? :)

      Delete
    25. Oh and random question, how have things been going since we last talked? :)

      Delete
    26. I'm (still) working on Before the Flames (but have kinda taken a break from writing in general for the past couple weeks). Not sure if that's a good thing or not, but I'm planning on starting back up again soon! OOOOHHH THAT IS SOOO COOL!!!!!!! I'll have to watch that video when you post it!!!!!!

Lol, my characters are doing well! XD Still stubborn...and confusing...as usual, but I love 'em anyway! ;)

Awww, things have been going well! I've kinda been bombarded with school and stuff (which has been a little overwhelming) but other than that life has been good! Mostly just taking it one day at a time, y'know? How about you?
